How to tune a guitar accurately
Standard tuning is E-A-D-G-B-E from low to high. Use chromatic mode at A=440, tune each string by approaching the note from below, then re-check all six — neck tension shifts as you go.
New strings stretch for a day or two. Retune often after a string change; that isn't a broken guitar, it's normal settling.
- Thickest string = 6th string (low E); thinnest = 1st string (high E).
- Never stop at 'close enough' on the low E — everything else references it.
- Explore Drop D or open tunings only after standard feels automatic.
